SHORTHAND END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT AND DISCLAIMER Version 1 · November 5, 2026
Shorthand Expander for Silicon ("Shorthand") is a product of John Kirker Inc. ("the developer," "we," or "us"). By installing or using Shorthand, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, quit Shorthand and delete it.
1. LICENSE You may install and use Shorthand on computers you own or control. You may not sell, rent, or redistribute modified copies, or remove these terms. The developer keeps all rights not expressly granted.
2. PROVIDED "AS IS," WITHOUT WARRANTY Shorthand has been built with care and tested, and we've done our best to make it reliable and safe. Even so, SHORTHAND IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. The developer does not warrant that Shorthand will be error-free, uninterrupted, secure, or compatible with every app, website, or macOS version, or that defects will be corrected.
3. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE DEVELOPER BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, INCLUDING ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES (SUCH AS LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, TEXT INSERTED IN THE WRONG PLACE, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION), ARISING FROM OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE SHORTHAND, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. Where liability can't be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for Shorthand, if any.
4. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES • You are responsible for what your snippets type, for checking text before you send it, and for keeping your own backups. • If you turn on encryption, keep your recovery key safe. Without your Shorthand password or recovery key, encrypted snippets cannot be recovered by anyone, including the developer. • Shorthand needs macOS Accessibility permission to read your typing so it can expand abbreviations. It does not record or send what you type. You can block apps and websites in Settings → Privacy. • Script snippets (AppleScript, shell, and JavaScript) run with your permissions. Only run scripts you trust. • Files you export from Shorthand are not encrypted. Keep them somewhere safe.
5. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES Optional AI features send the text you choose to the AI provider you set up (for example, Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google), under that provider's own terms and privacy policy, using your own API key and account. The developer is not responsible for third-party services, their availability, costs, or output. Review AI-generated text before using it.
6. UPDATES Shorthand can check for and install updates from the developer's GitHub releases. You can turn automatic checks off in Settings → General.
7. PRIVACY Shorthand has no account and no analytics. Your snippets, settings, and keys stay on your Mac (and in a sync folder only if you choose one). See Help → Privacy, Blocklist & Permissions, and the privacy policy at shorthandexpander.com/privacy.
8. GENERAL These terms are the entire agreement about Shorthand. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. Questions: support@shorthandexpander.com. Optional tips at ko-fi.com/kirkerplugins don't create any obligation or warranty.
By clicking "I Agree," you confirm that you have read and accept these terms.
