Support Shorthand

Shorthand is an independent app, made by one person. It isn’t affiliated with any other text-expander company; it simply imports from TextExpander so you can bring your snippets along.

There’s no subscription, no account, and no ads. If Shorthand saves you time, you can buy me a coffee on Ko-fi. It’s entirely optional, and every feature works the same either way.

Buy me a coffee on Ko-fi

Button not showing? Use this link instead: Buy me a coffee on Ko-fi (ko-fi.com/kirkerplugins). It opens in your web browser.

You’ll also find Buy Me a Coffee on Ko-fi… in the Help menu and in the Shorthand menu bar icon’s menu, and a Ko-fi button in Settings ▸ General ▸ Help & Support.

Updates

Shorthand updates itself. When a new version is out, a window shows what’s new with Install Update, Remind Me Later, and Skip This Version. Shorthand restarts, and your snippets, settings, permissions, and encryption carry over.

  • Check now: Shorthand ▸ Check for Updates…, or the same item in the menu bar menu.

  • Choose how: Settings ▸ General ▸ Updates, with Check for updates automatically (on by default, once a day) and Download and install updates automatically.

  • When an update is found in the background, Shorthand shows a gentle reminder instead of interrupting you. The update window comes to the front when you open it.

  • Safety: every update must carry the developer’s update signature and be signed by the same Apple Developer ID before it installs. The update check sends nothing about you or your snippets.

Uninstalling Shorthand

Open Settings ▸ General and click Uninstall Shorthand…. If Shorthand is locked, unlock it first. Choose one:

  • Uninstall, Keep My Snippets: Shorthand quits, moves itself to the Trash, and removes its login item and Accessibility permission. Your snippets, backups and keys stay, so reinstalling later picks up where you left off.

  • Uninstall and Delete Everything…: also deletes your snippet library, every backup, your settings and statistics, saved AI keys and encryption keys. Shorthand asks a second time, because this can’t be undone. To keep a copy, export your groups first (right-click a group ▸ Export Group…).

A library in a sync folder (Dropbox, iCloud Drive) is never deleted, because your other Macs may use it.

License

Shorthand is provided “as is,” without warranty of any kind. The developer has done their best to make it reliable and safe, but can’t guarantee it. Read the full agreement under Help ▸ License Agreement.

Other ways to help

  • Tell a friend who still has a big snippet library they can’t move.

  • Report problems with as much detail as you can: what you typed, which app you were in, and what happened. Troubleshooting covers the common cases first.

Thank you for using Shorthand.
